Westfield faced Avon in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Wednesday. The Shamrocks narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past the Orioles 5-3. The win was familiar territory for the Shamrocks, who have now won six matchups in a row.

Westfield got a great performance from Luke Collinsworth as he didn't allow a single hit and allowed only one earned run while striking out seven over five innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts Collinsworth has posted over his last four contests.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Lincoln Hoffman, who went 1-for-2 with two runs and one RBI. Drew Law was another key player, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one run.

Westfield's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 18-8. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.0 runs on average over those games. As for Avon, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 16-10.

Westfield will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Orioles: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday.
