Basketball Recap: Somerset College Prep Academy Comes Up Short

On Friday, the Somerset College Prep Academy Spartans came up short against the Vero Beach Indians and fell 49-40.

When it comes to explaining why Somerset College Prep Academy lost, don't look at Khloe Rodgers. Despite the final result, she posted 27 points along with seven steals and three blocks. Rodgers' evening made it four games in a row in which she has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Kaysha Felix, who had six points in addition to nine rebounds and eight steals.

Even though they lost, Somerset College Prep Academy smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 11 offensive boards in four consecutive matches.

Vero Beach was led to victory by Jazmyn Morris and Zy?Noria Ferguson. Morris almost dropped a double-double on ten points and nine boards, while Ferguson went 7 of 11 on her way to 16 points and five rebounds. Ferguson continues to improve, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Shanya Wynn, who put up eight points.

Somerset College Prep Academy's loss dropped their record down to 2-4. As for Vero Beach, they moved to 1-6 with that win, which also ended their seven-game losing streak.

Somerset College Prep Academy didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 50-49 victory against Oxbridge Academy on the 17th. As for Vero Beach, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 58-34 defeat against Martin County on the 16th.
