The Forest Wildcats will challenge the DeLand Bulldogs at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Forest is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.5 runs per game this season.
Forest is probably headed into the matchup with a chip on their shoulder considering Buchholz just ended the team's three-game winning streak on Monday. They lost 11-5 to the Bobcats.
Mahri Lingle was cooking despite her team's loss, scoring two runs and stealing Two bases. while going 1-for-4. She has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Aurora Shifflett, who scored a run while going 2-for-3.
Even though they lost, Forest hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their strikeout total in three consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask DeLand). Everything went their way against Taylor on Tuesday as DeLand made off with a 14-1 win. The Bulldogs not only won on Tuesday, but they posted their biggest win since April 18, 2024.
Emma Launer and Laila Flemming did most of the damage at the plate: Launer scored two runs while going 3-for-3, while Flemming scored three runs while going 2-for-3. Launer also brought in three RBI, marking her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Hailey Whidden, who scored three runs while going 2-for-3.
Forest's loss dropped their record down to 3-3. As for DeLand, their victory bumped their record up to 3-4.
DeLand's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Forest has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .440. It's a different story for DeLand, though, as they've only averaged .356. Will they be able to contain Forest's hitters?
Everything went Forest's way against DeLand when the teams last played back in March of 2024, as Forest made off with a 9-3 win. Does Forest have another victory up their sleeve, or will DeLand turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
