Basketball Game Preview: Grayling Vikings vs. Cheboygan Chiefs

The Grayling Vikings will square off against the Cheboygan Chiefs at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.

Grayling will face Cheboygan after dropping another heartbreaker against Harbor Springs on Tuesday, which marked the second time in a row the team's come within 3.1 of beating them. Grayling took a blow against Harbor Springs, falling 66-20. The Vikings have struggled against the Rams recently, as the game was their eighth consecutive lost matchup.

Meanwhile, Cheboygan was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They took a 41-33 hit to the loss column at the hands of Elk Rapids. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as the Chiefs came into the contest with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' Michigan basketball rankings (they are ranked 139th, while the Elks are ranked 377th).

Cheboygan's defeat dropped their record down to 3-3. As for Grayling, their loss ended a seven-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 5-1.

Grayling didn't have too much breathing room in their game against Cheboygan in their previous meeting back in February of 2024, but they still walked away with a 52-46 win. Will Grayling repeat their success, or does Cheboygan have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
