Basketball Recap: Tuesday's Defeat Ends Layton Christian Academy's Winning Streak

After a string of seven wins, Layton Christian Academy's good fortune finally ran out on Tuesday. They came up short against the Judge Memorial Catholic Bulldogs, falling 57-36. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest loss the Eagles have suffered since December 18, 2024.

Layton Christian Academy lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Ava Smith, who posted five points along with 16 rebounds and three blocks. Another player making a difference was Penelope Arroyo, who put up nine points in addition to six boards and three steals.

Judge Memorial Catholic got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Munah Doe out in front who went 6 for 10 en route to 16 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Elyssia Gallardo, who earned ten points.

Layton Christian Academy's defeat was their first in the region, dropping their region record down to 3-1 and their overall record down to 11-8. As for Judge Memorial Catholic, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matches, which provided a nice bump to their 8-11 record this season.

Coincidentally, the two teams will both be playing Providence Hall the next time they take the court. Judge Memorial Catholic will head out to face Providence Hall at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, while Layton Christian Academy will head out to face them at 7:00 p.m. on January 28th.
