Softball Recap: Marksville Takes a Loss

Marksville fought the good fight in their extra-innings game against Sacred Heart on Monday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They took an 8-5 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Sacred Heart Trojans. The Tigers haven't had much luck with the Trojans recently, as the team has come up short the last four times they've met.

Katie Lachney was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 16 batters over ten innings while giving up eight earned runs off 11 hits. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than eight strikeouts in nine consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of her five plate appearances with one stolen base, two RBI, and one double.

Lachney wasn't the only one making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Morgan Brantley, who scored a run while going 2-for-5.

Marksville's defeat dropped their record down to 7-4. As for Sacred Heart, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-5 record this season.

A feisty cat fight will be fought as Marksville Tigers challenge Buckeye Panthers at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Sacred Heart, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Opelousas Catholic at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.
