Basketball Game Preview: Myers Park Mustangs vs. Palisades Pumas

Myers Park is 6-0 against Palisades since January of 2023 and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Tuesday. The Myers Park Mustangs will venture away from home to challenge the Palisades Pumas at 7:30 p.m. One thing working in Myers Park's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last four contests.

Myers Park is headed into the matchup after thoroughly thrashing Ballantyne Ridge: they outscored them in every quarter. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that Myers Park blew Ballantyne Ridge out of the water with a 72-30 final score. Given the Mustangs' advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 155th, while the Wolves are ranked 546th), the result on Friday wasn't entirely unexpected.

Myers Park can attribute much of their success to Josh Hines, who went 6 of 9 on his way to 15 points along with seven boards and four steals, and Ayo Awosanya, who went 5 for 7 en route to 11 points in addition to six rebounds and three steals. The dominant performance also gave Awosanya a new career-high in assists (two). Another player making a difference was Wyatt Sweet, who posted eight points.

Meanwhile, Palisades entered their tilt with Berry on Friday with two consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with three. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 38-36 win over the Cardinals. The 38-point effort marked the Pumas' lowest-scoring game of the season, but in the end it didn't matter.

Myers Park is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four contests, which provided a massive bump to their 9-10 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 72.5 points per game. As for Palisades, their victory bumped their record up to 11-8.

Myers Park didn't have too much breathing room in their matchup against Palisades in their previous meeting back in December of 2024, but they still walked away with a 79-73 win. One of the biggest obstacles the team faced in that game was Palisades' Jayen Reeves, who went 13 of 21 en route to 30 points.
