Baseball Recap: Page County Comes Up Short

Page County came into this matchup off a tough seven-run loss last Tuesday. This time they kept things ultra-competitive, but unfortunately the final result was the same. They fell just short of the Madison County Mountaineers by a score of 7-5 on Friday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat the Panthers have suffered since May 20, 2024.

Tyler Shifflett was huge no matter where he played even without the win. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing four innings while giving up just two earned runs off three hits. Shifflett was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI. That home run was his first of the season.

In other batting news, John Leake was cooking despite his team's loss, going 1-for-4 with three RBI and one double.

Page County's loss was their fourth straight at home, which dropped their record down to 1-7. As for Madison County, with the win, they broke their six-game losing streak and moved their record to 2-6.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Page County will head out to face off against Strasburg at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Rams will roll in looking for their sixth straight victory, something the Panthers surely won't give up without a fight. As for Madison County, they will head out on the road to square off against Stonewall Jackson at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
