Recap: Fillmore Flashes vs. Santa Paula Cardinals

The Fillmore Flashes's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Thursday after their seventh straight loss. They fell 59-49 to Santa Paula. While losing is never fun, Fillmore can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 1253rd, while Santa Paula is ranked 420th).

Several Flashes players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Isaac Weslow, who dropped a double-double on 17 points and ten rebounds. Octavio Orozco was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on 12 points and 12 rebounds.

Fillmore bumped their record down to 3-16 with that defeat, which was their seventh straight at home. As for Santa Paula, the win was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 18-5.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Fillmore will square off against Trinity Classical Academy at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. One thing working in Trinity Classical Academy's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last 16 games. Santa Paula's road trip will continue as they head out to face Malibu at 3:00 p.m. on January 20th.
