Basketball Recap: St. George's Snaps Six-Game Streak of Wins at Home

St. George entered their match against Piedmont Academy on Monday without any home losses, but there's a first time for everything. St. George's fell 61-51 to the Piedmont Academy Cougars. Sadly, that's the second time they've come up short against St. George's this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 80-38 last Thursday.

Despite the defeat, St. George's had strong showings from Pressley Burson, who posted 20 points in addition to eight rebounds and four steals, and Jules Gotell, who had 19 points and five assists. Knoxie Burson was another key player, putting up four points and eight boards.

Even though they lost, St. George's smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 11 offensive rebounds in 13 consecutive contests.

It was another big night for Marissa Holder, who dropped a double-double on 27 points and 20 rebounds for Piedmont Academy. That makes it six consecutive games in which Holder has scored at least a third of Piedmont Academy's points. Another player making a difference was Emily Whitwell, who almost dropped a double-double on nine points and 13 boards.

St. George's loss ended a six-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 10-3. As for Piedmont Academy, the win (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 13-3.

St. George's wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 64-26 victory against Flint River Academy on the 17th. As for Piedmont Academy, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 62-55 win against Stratford Academy on the 14th.
