Basketball Recap: Lutheran Comes Up Short

Lutheran was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They lost 51-30 to the Chaparral Wolverines. The match marked the Lions' lowest-scoring contest so far this season.

Despite the loss, Lutheran saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Isla Koffmann posted six points and 14 rebounds. Those 14 boards set a new season-high mark for Koffmann. Another player making a difference was Makenna Mudd, who had seven points.

Even though they lost, Lutheran smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 16 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive boards they've posted since back in January of 2024.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Chaparral to victory, but perhaps none more so than Lauren Thompson, who put up 15 points in addition to six rebounds and five assists. Thompson is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed three or more in the last five games she's played. Maddie Jenkins was another key player, putting up 15 points along with six boards and three steals.

Lutheran's defeat dropped their record down to 3-8. As for Chaparral, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five games, which provided a nice bump to their 9-4 record this season.

Lutheran wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next match, a 54-18 victory against Cheyenne Mountain on the 16th. Chaparral has also already played their next contest, a 43-33 loss against ThunderRidge on the 17th.
