Basketball Recap: Calhoun County Takes a Loss

Calhoun County played a tough match on Friday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They took a blow against the North Eagles, falling 59-31. Sadly, that's the second time they've come up short against the Saints this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 63-19 back in December of 2024.

Calhoun County's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Cassidy Pough, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and 14 boards. That was a full 41.9% of Calhoun County's points, marking the third time in a row she's posted more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Raniya Tyler, who went 6 for 14 en route to 16 points and five steals.

North's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Kailen Parks, who had 16 points in addition to seven steals and five rebounds. Parks is crushing it when it comes to steals: she's grabbed at least three every time she's taken the court this season. Angionna Hook was another key player, almost dropping a double-double on ten points and nine boards.

Calhoun County has been struggling recently as they've lost six of their last seven games, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-7 record this season. As for North, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five contests, which provided a nice bump to their 10-6 record this season.

Calhoun County has already played their next match (against Horse Creek Academy), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. North and Hunter-Kinard-Tyler will face off at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday without much rest having both just played.
