Basketball Recap: Salesian Takes a Loss

Salesian lost against Fordham Prep back in January of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Salesian Eagles took a 56-46 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Fordham Prep Rams.

When it comes to explaining why Salesian lost, don't look at Julien Wiggins. Despite the final result, he posted 25 points along with six steals and five rebounds. That was a full 54.3% of Salesian's points, marking the fourth time in a row he's put up more than a third of the team's points. Jonathan Lagos was another key player, putting up seven points and eight rebounds.

It was another big night for Brian Kapfer, who dropped a double-double on 26 points and 13 boards for Fordham Prep. Kapfer is crushing it when it comes to points: he's scored at least 15 every time he's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Dylan McElhatton, who had seven points along with 12 rebounds and three blocks.

Salesian's loss dropped their record down to 7-6. As for Fordham Prep, they are on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six matches, which provided a nice bump to their 8-5 record this season.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Salesian will take on St. Mary's at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Fordham Prep, they will challenge Monsignor McClancy at 4:15 p.m. on Tuesday.
