Basketball Recap: Western Branch Triumphs

On Tuesday, the Western Branch Bruins escaped with a win against the Glen Allen Jaguars by the margin of a single free throw, 61-60.

Despite the loss, Glen Allen still got an impressive performance from Faron Friend, who almost dropped a double-double on 28 points and nine boards. That was a full 46.7% of Glen Allen's points, marking the third time in a row he's posted more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Brodey Harper, who had nine points.

Western Branch now has a winning record of 2-1. As for Glen Allen, with the defeat, they broke their six-game winning streak and moved their record to 6-2.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Western Branch is headed away from home for the first time to square off against Lakeland at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Lakeland knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past three matchups -- so hopefully Western Branch likes a good challenge. As for Glen Allen, they will head out to challenge Cosby at 7:15 p.m. on Friday.
