Baseball Recap: Webbers Falls Comes Up Short

Webbers Falls fought the good fight in their extra-innings matchup against Wetumka on Monday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Chieftains by a score of 7-6. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Chieftains this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 20-12 last Saturday.

Gunner Shelby was huge no matter where he played even without the win. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over 4.1 innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off two hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in six consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-6 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.

Shelby wasn't the only one making solid contact as eight players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Rocky Greenfield, who went 1-for-4 with two RBI and one double.

Webbers Falls' loss dropped their record down to 9-4. As for Wetumka, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won nine of their last ten games. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-5 record this season.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming contests. Webbers Falls will venture away from home to square off against Union Christian Academy at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Wetumka, they will head out to challenge Vanoss at 4:30 p.m. on Monday.
