Basketball Recap: Riviera Prep Takes a Loss

On Friday, Riviera Prep faced Sagemont in a battle between two of the state's top teams. The Riviera Prep Bulldogs were dealt a 91-50 loss at the hands of the Sagemont Prep. The Bulldogs were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Prep earlier this season, when they won 61-59.

Riviera Prep lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Jeremy Jenkins, who dropped a double-double with 11 points and 11 boards. He is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as he's now pulled down eight or more in the last five games he's played. Myles Fuentes was another key player, putting up 11 points along with seven boards and five steals.

Sagemont's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Patrick Liburd, who went 6 of 7 from beyond the arc to rack up 26 points in addition to seven rebounds and three blocks. With that strong performance, Liburd is now averaging an impressive 15.1 points per game. The team also got some help courtesy of Kevin Thomas, who went 7 for 14 en route to 16 points along with six assists and three steals.

Riviera Prep has been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four games, which has put a noticeable dent in their 13-10 record this season. As for Sagemont, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 15-7 record this season.

Riviera Prep didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 68-65 win against Windermere Prep on the 1st. As for Sagemont, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 73-66 defeat against AZ Compass Prep National on the 1st.
