For the second straight game, Excelsior Charter will face off against University Prep. The Eagles will be playing in front of their home fans against the Jaguars at 3:15 p.m. on Thursday. Excelsior Charter is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 11.2 runs per game this season.

Last Tuesday, Excelsior Charter didn't have quite enough to beat University Prep and fell 15-14. The Eagles have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

For University Prep's part, Breezy (Briseis) Vargas made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over 3.2 innings while giving up just two earned (and five unearned) runs off seven hits (and only one walk). Vargas has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, scoring two runs while going 2-for-5. What's more, she posted two RBI, the most she's had since back in April of 2024.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Paityn Zimmerman, who went 4-for-5 with one home run, seven RBI, and two runs. Those seven RBI gave her a new career-high. Amarie Castro was another key player, scoring four runs while going 5-for-5.

University Prep was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .488. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.

University Prep's win bumped their record up to 9-3. As for Excelsior Charter, their loss dropped their record down to 6-5-1.

Thursday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Excelsior Charter hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .370. However, it's not like University Prep struggles in that department as they've averaged .415. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
