Softball Recap: Lakewood's Loss Ends Ten-Game Winning Streak at Home

Lakewood dropped their record down to 15-4 on Wednesday, which also ended the team's ten-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season. They fell 3-0 to the Mt. Vernon Yellowjackets. The Lancers were not able to make up for their defeat to the Yellowjackets from their previous meeting back in April of 2022.

Ashlyn Carder spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned runs on seven hits and racked up seven Ks. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Lakewood saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Averie Adams, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one double.

As for Mt. Vernon, the win was the tenth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 16-2. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.5 runs over those games.

On Mt. Vernon's side, Jocelyn Scarbury made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run while striking out 11 over seven innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts Scarbury has posted since back in March. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one home run.
