Baseball Recap: New Prairie Beats Mishawaka Marian for Their Seventh Straight Victory

With a playoff win on the line, New Prairie rose to the challenge on Thursday. They put the hurt on the Mishawaka Marian Knights with a sharp 11-4 victory. The Cougars might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 12 matchups by six runs or more this season.

Colton Griffiths looked comfortable as he tossed 3.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. He has been consistent for a while: he hasn't given up more than two walks in 11 consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Reed Robinson, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with one home run, three runs, and one double. Jordan Davis was another key player, going 3-for-4 with two RBI and one run.

New Prairie always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .528. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Mishawaka Marian only posted an OBP of .323.

The win (which was New Prairie's seventh in a row) raised their record to 19-9. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.4 runs on average over those games. As for Mishawaka Marian, they have been struggling recently as they've lost 12 of their last 15 games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 10-18 record this season.

New Prairie will take on Plymouth at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. The Cougars' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Pilgrims/Rockies have averaged an impressive 6.2 runs per game this season. Mishawaka Marian does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
