Callisburg hasn't had much luck against Boyd recently, but that could start to change on Monday. The Wildcats will be playing in front of their home fans against the Yellowjackets at 6:00 p.m. Callisburg has given up an average of 16.6 runs per game this season, but Monday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Callisburg is headed into Monday's matchup looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their tenth straight game on Friday. They came up short against Pilot Point, falling 19-8.
Jai Leigh Partridge was cooking despite her team's loss, scoring two runs while going 2-for-2. She also hit a double, marking her first of the season. Triniti Sullivant was another key player, scoring a run and stealing two bases while going 1-for-3.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Boyd, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Friday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand Pilot Point a 15-0 shutout on Tuesday. The result was nothing new for the Yellowjackets, who have now won 13 contests by six runs or more so far this season.
Abby Atkinson made a splash while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out nine over four innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in ten consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with five RBI and one triple. Those five RBI gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Stephanie Salas, who went 3-for-4 with three runs, one triple, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Gabby Salas, who scored three runs while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.
Boyd's win was their tenth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 20-4-2. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.4 runs on average over those games. As for Callisburg, their loss dropped their record down to 2-12.
Callisburg might still be hurting after the 15-0 defeat they got from Boyd in their previous meeting back in March. Will the Wildcats have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the action for a full breakdown of the game and more softball content.
