Basketball Recap: Dan River Comes Up Short

Dan River was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their sixth straight loss dating back to last season. They took a 54-44 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Halifax County Comets. Sadly, that's the second time they've come up short against the Wildcats this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 45-41 last Tuesday.

Despite the defeat, Dan River saw an underclassman step up: freshman Liza Maxey went 6 of 15 on her way to 19 points in addition to five boards and three blocks. Another player making a difference was Akeelah Scott, who posted eight points and three steals.

Even though they lost, Dan River smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 15 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in 17 consecutive matches dating back to last season.

Dan River's loss dropped their record down to 0-3. As for Halifax County, their victory bumped their record up to 3-1.

Dan River didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 46-36 defeat against Patrick County on the 11th. As for Halifax County, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 58-23 loss against Gretna on the 11th.
