Softball Game Preview: Laton Mustangs vs. McFarland Cougars

Laton is 0-8 against McFarland since April of 2015 but things could change on Thursday. The Mustangs will challenge the Cougars at 6:30 p.m. Laton has given up an average of 16.5 runs per game this season, but Thursday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

The home team had come away the winner the last five times Laton and Wonderful College Prep Academy had met, but sadly for the fans who attended this one that wasn't the case. The Mustangs came up short against the Wolves on Tuesday, falling 14-2. Having soared to a lofty 16 runs in the game before, the Mustangs couldn't push the score so high this time.

Laton saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jade Perez, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base and one run. Perez is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games she's played.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask McFarland). They were the clear victors by a 16-4 margin over Delano on Monday. The high-scoring effort was just what the Cougars needed considering they were shut out in their previous game.

McFarland's victory ended a four-game drought on the road and puts them at 5-13. As for Laton, their defeat dropped their record down to 12-9.

Laton couldn't quite get it done against McFarland in their previous matchup back in February of 2023 as they fell 17-12. Can the Mustangs avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
