Basketball Game Preview: DePaul Catholic Spartans vs. West Milford Highlanders

DePaul Catholic hasn't had much luck against West Milford recently, but that could start to change on Saturday. The DePaul Catholic Spartans will welcome the West Milford Highlanders at 11:30 a.m. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.

West Milford is hoping to do what Hackensack couldn't on Monday: put an end to DePaul Catholic's winning streak, which now stands at three games. DePaul Catholic blew past Hackensack 48-24. The Spartans have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won three matchups by 23 points or more this season.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask West Milford). Everything went their way against Pequannock on Saturday as West Milford made off with a 55-32 victory. Perhaps unsurprisingly given the team's high-flying offense, the game also marked the team's biggest win of the season.

West Milford had a senior duo take command as Laurel Space almost dropped a triple-double on 12 points, 11 rebounds, and nine steals and Amanda O'Brien dropped a double-double on 14 points and 15 rebounds. That's the most boards Space has posted since back in December of 2023. Sarah Benowitz was another key player, putting up 12 points.

West Milford smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 28 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 17 offensive rebounds in four consecutive contests.

DePaul Catholic's victory bumped their record up to 4-1. As for West Milford, their win bumped their record up to 3-1.
