Basketball Recap: Niwot Cougars vs. Silver Creek Raptors
Niwot was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their 11th straight defeat. They took a 56-42 bruising from the Silver Creek Raptors. The Cougars lost against the Raptors in their previous head to head back in December of 2023, too, but the margin this time around was much closer than the 80-32 score last time.
Several Cougars players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Rohit Das, who went 5 for 10 to rack up 13 points and five rebounds. What's more, Das also racked up three assists, the most he's had since back in December of 2024. Another player making a difference was Elliot Wisecup, who posted five points.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Silver Creek to victory, but perhaps none more so than Connor Bonsett, who went 8 of 11 en route to 16 points in addition to five boards and four steals. Bonsett continues to improve, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. Luke Schmeeckle was another key player, putting up 12 points and five steals.
Niwot's loss dropped their record down to 4-16. As for Silver Creek, the victory got them back to even at 9-9.
Niwot and Silver Creek could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Colorado Rankings. Niwot (ranked 237th) will meet Monarch (ranked 54th) at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Niwot has given up an average of 55.6 points per game this season, so hopefully the team got some defensive drills in this week. Similarly, Silver Creek will square off against Legacy at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday down 106 places (147 vs. 41).
