Waterville is 2-7 against Leavitt since May of 2015 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Monday. The Panthers will be playing in front of their home fans against the Hornets at 4:00 p.m. Both come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Waterville is returning home triumphant after the team finally put their road woes behind them against Oceanside on Friday. The Panthers walked away with a 9-6 victory over the Mariners. The game was the first time the Panthers have beaten the Mariners on their field since May 18, 2022.
Garrett Gendreau spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered four earned (and two unearned) runs on eight hits.
At the plate, Felix Chapa was incredible, going 3-for-4 with three runs, three RBI, and one stolen base. Those RBI marked the first that he has brought in this season. Jacoby Sirois was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
Leavitt came out on top against Morse on Friday thanks in part to the team's impressive five-run seventh inning. The Hornets won by a run and slipped past the Shipbuilders 10-9.
Morgan Folsom was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He tossed four innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off four hits. He also tossed a walk, which is notable because Leavitt is 3-1 when he allows at most one walk, but 1-4 otherwise. Folsom was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs.
Folsom wasn't the only one making solid contact as seven players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Ryder Sawyer-Brown, who got on base in four of his five plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Sawyer-Brown has become a key player for Leavitt: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 1-5 otherwise. Another was Landon Marquis, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base and one RBI.
Leavitt always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .525. The last time their OBP was this high was back in May of 2024.
Leavitt's win bumped their record up to 4-5. As for Waterville, their victory ended a seven-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 3-4.
Waterville might still be hurting after the 12-2 defeat they got from Leavitt in their previous meeting back in April. Will the Panthers have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the action for a full breakdown of the game and more baseball content.
