Softball Recap: Fitch Snags Seventh Victory in Last Nine Games

Fitch won the last time they faced Old Lyme and things went their way on Wednesday too. The Falcons came out on top against the Wildcats by a score of 2-1 (the very same score they lost by in their prior game).

Hailey Merrill spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on seven hits and racked up eight Ks. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Fitch secured the win behind a pair of hitters. One of them was Grace Cosmopoulos, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base and one run.

Fitch has been performing well recently as they've won seven of their last nine matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-5 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.7 runs over those games. As for Old Lyme, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 8-7.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Fitch will square off against Bacon Academy at 3:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Old Lyme, they will challenge Portland at 4:00 p.m. on Friday.
