Recap: Smith Academy Fighting 54th vs. Southern Wells Raiders
The Smith Academy Fighting 54th's's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Saturday after their third straight loss. They were beaten by Southern Wells 61-30. Smith Academy has not had much luck with Southern Wells recently, as the team's come up short the last eight times they've met.
Chandler Oswalt continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines for Southern Wells, scoring 20 points along with seven assists and six rebounds. Oswalt also grabbed two steals for the first time this season. Another player making a difference was Cj Reber, who scored 15 points along with seven rebounds and three steals.
Smith Academy bumped their record down to 1-6 with that defeat, which was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season. That rough patch could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 27.0 points per game. As for Southern Wells, their win ended a four-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 1-4.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Smith Academy will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Lakewood Park Christian at 7:30 p.m. on January 5, 2024. Southern Wells will be home for the holidays to greet Southwood at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Southwood is coming into the game on a four-game losing streak.
