Preview: Campbell Spartans vs. McEachern Indians
Campbell has enjoyed a two-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will take on the McEachern Indians at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Campbell will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Georgia Rankings (they are ranked 170th, while McEachern is ranked 32nd).
Campbell fell victim to Westlake's stalwart defense on Friday and couldn't make it onto the board. They were beaten by the Lions 35-0. Campbell has not had much luck with Westlake recently, as the team's come up short the last seven times they've met.
Meanwhile, McEachern came tearing into Friday's match with six straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 16.4 points) and they left with even more momentum. They didn't even let Hillgrove onto the board and left with a 38-0 victory. The score at the end of the third wound up being the final score as McEachern just coasted through the last quarter.
Among those leading the charge was Jaydon Kinney, who threw for 258 yards and three touchdowns on only 13 passes. Dy?lon Womack made the highlight reel by snagging an interception and taking it all the way to the house.
Campbell's defeat was their fourth straight at home, which bumped their record down to 3-7. Those losses could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 4.3 points per game. As for McEachern, their victory bumped their record up to 6-4.
Campbell took a serious blow against McEachern when the teams last played back in October of 2021, falling 36-7. Can Campbell avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
