Basketball Game Preview: Telluride Miners vs. Ridgway Demons

Telluride hasn't had much luck against Ridgway recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Telluride Miners will welcome the Ridgway Demons at 5:00 p.m.

Telluride is headed into the game out to prove that what happened against Bayfield on Saturday (when they were outscored in every quarter) was just a minor bump in the road. Telluride came up short against Bayfield, falling 36-13. The Miners were down 34-8 at the end of the third quarter, which was just too much to recover from.

Meanwhile, Ridgway posted their biggest win since January 21st on Tuesday. Everything went their way against Ouray as Ridgway made off with a 38-18 victory. The win continues a trend for the Demons in their matchups with the Trojans: they've now won five in a row.

Telluride better keep an eye on Sophia Scranton. She was instrumental in Ridgway's win, going 7-for-11 to rack up 15 points and seven steals. Scranton is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed three or more in each of the last 21 games she's played dating back to last season. Another player making a difference was Emery Cornell, who posted four points and four steals.

Ridgway's victory bumped their record up to 11-7. As for Telluride, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-15.

Telluride suffered a grim 51-30 defeat to Ridgway in their previous matchup back in January. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Ridgway's Maddie Miller, who dropped a triple-double with 27 points, 12 rebounds, and 13 steals. Now that Telluride knows the damage she can cause, will they be able to stop her this time? There's only one way to find out.
