League recap: South Lake's league-best three wins lead to standings climb

6A District 5 league recap: 3/20/13

Top honors in the league this week go to South Lake, which finished with three wins overall, good for best in the league. The Eagles beat Leesburg 4-1 and Lake Weir 4-0.

This could be a critical week for South Lake, which holds a 2-game lead over Vanguard for 6A District 5's top spot in the standings.

Vanguard's pitchers have displayed incredible control over the past week and all season, giving up just five walks over the past seven days and 36 on the year, both No. 1 in the league.

Gainesville's Will Whitlock led the league in strikeouts this week with six. He's fifth in the league with 21 total strikeouts.



Vanguard's Tommy Knowd was locked in this week, and led the league with a .500 average (3-for-6) over that span. His average for the season stands at .444, which ranks first in the league. Knowd has totaled eight hits this season.
