Basketball Recap: Wootton Takes a Loss

Wootton was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their fifth straight defeat. They were five points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 62-57 heartbreaker at the hands of the Whitman Vikings. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Vikings this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 57-49 back in January.

Despite the loss, Wootton still got an impressive performance from Maya Bellamy, who dropped a double-double with 26 points and 13 boards. Wootton is 6-2 when Bellamy posts ten or more rebounds, but 1-10 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Malia Bellamy, who posted five points in addition to 13 boards and five assists.

Wootton's loss dropped their record down to 7-12. As for Whitman, they are on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last 11 matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-6 record this season.

Wootton wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 55-16 win against Blake on the 21st. As for Whitman, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 59-45 defeat against Bethesda-Chevy Chase on the 18th.
