Basketball Recap: Paxton Takes a Loss

Paxton had to start their season on the road on Thursday, and it wasn't the start they were hoping for. They took a 52-38 bruising from the Anselmo-Merna Coyotes. The Tigers were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Coyotes apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in December of 2024.

When it comes to explaining why Paxton lost, don't look at Maddex McConnell. Despite the final result, he dropped a double-double with 14 points and 11 boards.

Dane Duryea was a one-man wrecking crew For Anselmo-Merna. as he dropped a double-double with 27 points and ten rebounds. Those 27 points gave Duryea a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Caenyn Priest, who posted six points in addition to six boards and four steals.

Paxton has already played their next game, a 50-44 defeat against Medicine Valley on the 5th. As for Anselmo-Merna, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 61-16 win against Sandhills Valley on the 5th.
