Baseball Recap: Parkersburg Takes a Loss

Parkersburg was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their eighth straight loss dating back to last season. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 2-1 heartbreaker at the hands of the John Marshall Monarchs. Big Reds fans who chose to attend the game sure picked the wrong one: it was the first time the team's lost against the Monarchs since on Tuesday.

Parkersburg got a good showing from Gavin Fling, who didn't allow a single earned run over four innings pitched.

At the plate, Jesse Showalter made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and scored a run and stole two bases while going 2-for-2. Those hits marked the first that he got this season.

Parkersburg's defeat dropped their record down to 0-4. As for John Marshall, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 3-0.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Parkersburg will square off against Parkersburg South at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for John Marshall, they will take on Huntington at 4:00 p.m. on Friday.
