Softball Recap: Smith County Owls vs. Monterey Wildcats

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Upperman, Smith County was happy to have turned things around on Tuesday. They walked away with a 21-16 win over the Monterey Wildcats. The high-scoring effort was just what Smith County needed considering they were shutout in their previous match.

Avery Woodard was a standout: she went 4-for-6 with six RBI, a stolen base, and a run. The team also got some help courtesy of Chloe Collins, who scored four runs and stole a base while going 3-for-4.

Smith County's victory bumped their record up to 11-7. As for Monterey, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 9-7.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Smith County will square off against Gordonsville at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. Gordonsville will roll in looking for their fifth straight win, something Smith County surely won't give up without a fight. As for Monterey, they will head out on the road to face off against Jackson County at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday.
