Newport lost to Hoxie back in November of 2020, but they didn't allow them the same satisfaction on Friday. The Newport Greyhounds took their game with ease, bagging a 52-14 victory over the Hoxie Mustangs. The Greyhounds might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five contests by 36 points or more this season.

Luke Reynolds was his usual excellent self, throwing for 225 yards and four touchdowns on only 14 passes, while also punching in a touchdown on the ground. Aamonii Wren was another key player, picking up 140 receiving yards and two touchdowns.

Another reason for the win was Newport's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for three sacks. Zylan Ross was especially locked on to Hoxie's QB and sacked him twice. Tyler Ridley was another major factor on D, picking up a sack and making nine total tackles (5.0 for loss).

Although Hoxie took the loss, they still got scores from Dylann Barnhill and Robert Urias-Martinez.

The win was the third in a row for Newport, bringing their record for this year to 7-2. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 54.3 points per game. As for Hoxie, they now have a losing record at 4-5.

Newport wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next matchup, a 42-7 victory against Harrisburg on the 8th. Hoxie has also already played their next match, a 35-0 defeat against Walnut Ridge on the 8th.
