High Point Central is headed into Friday's game looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their eighth straight game dating back to last season on Wednesday. They were two runs away from ending the streak, but they lost a 15-13 heartbreaker at the hands of T.W. Andrews. One positive for the Bison, at least, is that this was the most points they've scored all season.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Northeast Guilford, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Monday. Their pitchers stepped up to hand High Point Central a 15-0 shutout on Tuesday. The result was nothing new for the Rams, who have now won four matches by 12 runs or more so far this season.
Josh Jones made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits (and only one walk). What's more, he gave up only one walk, the fewest he's had since back in March of 2024. He was also big at the plate, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and one triple. He has become a key player for Northeast Guilford: the team is 3-1 when he posts at least two stolen bases, but 1-6 otherwise.
In other batting news, Northeast Guilford got a massive performance out of Paul Mitchell, who went 1-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. Northeast Guilford is undefeated when Mitchell posts two or more runs, but 1-7 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Terrell Johnson, who scored two runs and stole Two bases. while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.
Northeast Guilford always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .667. The last time their OBP was this high was back in April of 2024.
Northeast Guilford moved to 4-7 with that victory, which also ended their three-game losing streak. As for High Point Central, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-6.
