This season hasn't been kind to the KIPP Navigate College Prep Tigers, who are still winless after their seventh match. They were dealt a 80-32 loss at the hands of University Prep Academy on Thursday. KIPP Navigate College Prep was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 48-19.
KIPP Navigate College Prep's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Zephaniah Martinez, who scored six points along with three blocks. That's the first time this season that Martinez posted two or more blocks. Derrick Tran was another key contributor, scoring nine points.
University Prep Academy can attribute much of their success to Bereket Woldemichael, who scored 17 points. Woldemichael continues to roll, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Mathias Woodaj, who scored ten points.
KIPP Navigate College Prep bumped their record down to 0-7 with that defeat, which was their eighth straight on the road. That rough patch could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 22.3 points per game. As for University Prep Academy, the win (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 8-7.
KIPP Navigate College Prep won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Summit Tahoma at 6:00 p.m. on January 19th. As for University Prep Academy, they will play host again and welcome Latino College Preparatory Academy, where tip off is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Latino College Preparatory Academy is coming into the matchup on a three-game losing streak.
