Football Recap: Greenbrier Christian Academy Starts Season with Win on the Road

Greenbrier Christian Academy had to travel to play their first game of the season, but the final result was worth the trip. They claimed a resounding 48-19 win over Rappahannock County. This was payback for the Gators, who suffered a 53-33 defeat the last time these two teams met.

Tucker Basnight had a dynamite game, rushing for 279 yards and four scores while picking up 13.3 yards per carry. Those 279 rushing yards gave him a new career-high. Tyson Moravec was another key player, throwing for 125 yards and a pair of TDs.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Greenbrier Christian Academy was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 391 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 250 rushing yards in seven consecutive contests dating back to last season.

Another reason for the win was Greenbrier Christian Academy's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for three sacks. Brady Countiss was particularly dangerous to the passing game, picking up two himself.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Greenbrier Christian Academy will welcome Fuqua at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Rappahannock County, they will host Blessed Sacrament-Huguenot at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
