It was a good run, but Clay unfortunately witnessed the end of their five-game winning streak on Tuesday. They fell just short of Southeastern by a score of 6-4.
Laney Shepherd put in work while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out nine batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned (and five unearned) runs off ten hits (and not a single walk). Shepherd was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two runs and one double.
Shepherd wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Maddie Penix, who went 1-for-4 with two RBI and one double. Another was Elin Shaw, who went 2-for-4 with two runs and two doubles.
The loss was their first at home , dropping their record down to 11-7. As for Southeastern, their victory ended a 12-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 5-10.
Looking ahead, Clay will look to defend their home field on Wednesday against Glenwood at 5:00 p.m. The Panthers are facing the Tigers at the right time seeing as the Tigers are stuck on a nine-game losing streak. As for Southeastern, they will square off against Paint Valley at 5:15 p.m. on Wednesday.
