Preview: York/Pavilion vs. Canisteo-Greenwood Chargers

York/Pavilion will face off against the Canisteo-Greenwood Chargers at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Each of these teams will be battling to keep a seven-game winning streak alive.

Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only York/Pavilion walked away with it. They took down Notre Dame 28-14 on Friday. 28 seems to be a good number for York/Pavilion as the team scooped up a victory with the same number of points in their previous game.

York/Pavilion's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Parker Bonefede, who threw for 123 yards and three touchdowns while completing 76.9% of his passes. Carl Szczech was another key contributor, gaining 126 total yards and two touchdowns.

York/Pavilion's defense stepped up as well, laying out the QB three times. Leading the way was Ryan Brady and his two sacks.

Avon typically have all the answers at home, but on Friday Canisteo-Greenwood proved too difficult a challenge. Canisteo-Greenwood strolled past Avon with points to spare, taking the game 20-6.

York/Pavilion's victory was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 8-1. That said, the team wasn't facing the toughest opposition over that stretch, as it included 0-9 Geneseo/Mount Morris and 3-7 Notre Dame (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 37.8% over those games). As for Canisteo-Greenwood, they are on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine contests, which provided a nice bump to their 13-3 record this season.

York/Pavilion barely slipped by Canisteo-Greenwood when the teams last played back in September, winning 13-12. The rematch might be a little tougher for York/Pavilion since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
