Softball Game Preview: Skaneateles Lakers vs. Marcellus Mustangs

Skaneateles is 0-10 against Marcellus since April of 2016 but things could change on Tuesday. The Lakers will look to take advantage of their home field for the first time this season as they take on the Mustangs at 5:00 p.m. After the two teams made easy work of their previous opponents, one won't be so lucky on Tuesday.

Skaneateles will roll into the match after a wild two-game stretch: they only put up two runs on Thursday, then bounced right back against Mexico on Friday. The Lakers blew past the Tigers 22-5. The Lakers haven't had any issues with the Tigers recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive victory against them.

Meanwhile, Marcellus gave their fans exactly what they wanted out of a home opener on Friday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand Cazenovia a 12-0 shutout.

Mariah Kolm was a standout: she went a perfect 2-for-2 with three runs, one triple, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Maddy Richer, who scored two runs while going 2-for-2.

Marcellus always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .556. The last time their OBP was this high was back in May of 2024.

Skaneateles suffered a grim 19-6 defeat to Marcellus in their previous matchup back in May of 2024. Can the Lakers avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
