Baseball Recap: Buena Takes a Loss

Buena was the 9-7 winner over Ironwood Ridge when they last played one another back in April of 2024, but their luck changed this time around. The Buena Colts fell just short of the Ironwood Ridge Nighthawks by a score of 10-9 on Tuesday. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last four times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.

Buena got a good showing from Landon Fields, who tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. The dominant performance also gave Fields a new career-high in strikeouts (two).

On the hitting side, Angel Olivarez was cooking despite his team's loss, scoring two runs and stealing Two bases. while going 3-for-3. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in March of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Aidan Barrett, who scored a run while going 2-for-3.

Buena dropped their record down to 3-2 with the loss, which was their fifth straight on the road dating back to last season. As for Ironwood Ridge, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 5-1.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Buena will venture away from home to face off against Marana at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Buena is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.8 runs per game this season. As for Ironwood Ridge, they will challenge Empire at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
