Baseball Recap: The Academy Takes a Loss

The Academy was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their eighth straight loss dating back to last season. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost an 11-10 heartbreaker at the hands of Greeley Central. Even if The Academy couldn't come away with the victory, the high-scoring effort was a great turnaround for their hitters, which had struggled int the games prior.

Gavin Maggufin made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in all five of his plate appearances. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in hits (three). Kameron Forsyth also deserves some recognition as he scored his first run of the season.

Even though they lost, The Academy was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .400. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.

The Academy's defeat dropped their record down to 0-5. As for Greeley Central, their win (their first of the season) made their record 1-4.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. The Academy will have a little extra prep time after the loss as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on Colorado Academy at 3:30 p.m. on April 1. The matchup will give The Academy their first taste of in-conference action this season. As for Greeley Central, they will head out to square off against Roosevelt at 4:00 p.m. on Monday.
