Football Recap: Beech Grove Piles Up the Points Against Speedway

After only 12 points in their last contest, Beech Grove made sure to put some points up on the board against Speedway on Friday. The Hornets breezed past the Sparkplugs to the tune of 46-13. The Hornets might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won three matchups by 33 points or more this season.

Caron Parks had another great game (as he tends to do), rushing for 233 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 8.6 yards per carry. He has become a key player for Beech Grove: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two rushing touchdowns, but 1-2 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Zane Ream, who picked up 139 receiving yards and a pair of scores.

Beech Grove didn't let much get past them through the air: they limited Speedway to a completion percentage of just 50%. The team can thank Bj Mastin for the heroic effort on defense: he. Sadly, that's becoming something of a trend for Beech Grove; they were averaging 58.4%completion percentage earlier this season, but in their last three games they've fallen to only 58.4%.

Special teams was a major factor in the game for Beech Grove, racking up 12 points in total. The biggest highlight from special teams (and perhaps the team as a whole) came courtesy of Ream, who ran a punt back for a touchdown. Another bright spot was a kickoff return touchdown from Tenauri Woods.

Despite the loss, Speedway still got an impressive performance from Logan Moore, who threw for 99 yards and two TDs.

The win made it two in a row for Beech Grove and bumps their season record up to 5-2. Those victories came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 13 points in those games. As for Speedway, they are on a ten-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-7.

Beech Grove didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, a 24-20 loss against Triton Central on the 10th. As for Speedway, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next matchup, a 42-7 defeat against Indian Creek on the 10th.
