Preview: Boerne Greyhounds vs. Southside Cardinals
Boerne is 7-0 against Southside since December of 2015, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Monday. The Boerne Greyhounds will head out on the road to face off against the Southside Cardinals at 6:30 p.m. Boerne is looking to tack on another W to their 13-game streak on the road dating back to last season.
Boerne has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won six matchups by 24 points or more this season. They simply couldn't be stopped on Tuesday as they easily beat Uvalde 88-34 at home. Boerne's offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Boerne to victory, but perhaps none more so than Casen Hoegemeyer, who scored 20 points along with three steals. Those 20 points set a new season-high mark for him. Slade Salinas was another key contributor, scoring 16 points.
Meanwhile, Southside's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Saturday after their fifth straight loss. They ended up on the wrong side of a tough 72-46 walloping at the hands of Veterans Memorial. While losing is never fun, Southside can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 973rd, while Veterans Memorial is ranked 22nd).
Boerne is on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine contests, which provided a nice bump to their 14-2 record this season. As for Southside, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-9.
Everything came up roses for Boerne against Southside in their previous meeting back in December of 2022 as the squad secured a 82-31 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Boerne since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
