The James River Midlothian Rapids will face off against the Godwin Eagles at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. The two teams are strolling into their contests after big wins in their previous games.
Having struggled with five defeats in a row, James River Midlothian turned things around against Thomas Dale on Friday. They blew past the Knights 15-6. With that win, the Rapids brought their scoring average up to 6.3 runs per game.
Savannah Overton was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she tossed five innings while giving up just one earned (and five unearned) runs off seven hits. Overton was also solid in the batter's box, going 3-for-5 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
In other batting news, James River Midlothian got a massive performance out of Hailey Metacarpa, who went 4-for-5 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Taylor Smith, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
James River Midlothian kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. That's the most hits they've posted since back in April of 2024.
Meanwhile, Godwin put another one in the bag on Friday to keep their perfect season alive. They never let Deep Run get on the board and left with an 8-0 victory. Considering the Eagles have won six matches by more than six runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Like James River Midlothian, Godwin also got a great game from a two-way player: Katelyn Hubley. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out nine over seven innings pitched. Hubley has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts any time she's pitched this season. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one home run and two runs.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Bella Ross, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double. Carter Dunham was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases and two runs.
Godwin pushed their record up to 11-0 with the win, which was their sixth straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.3 runs on average over those games. As for James River Midlothian, their win bumped their record up to 2-7.
James River Midlothian's speedy runners might be the difference in Monday's game. The Rapids have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 2.7 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Godwin, though, as they've been averaging only 0.7 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will James River Midlothian continue to outrun the ball?
James River Midlothian suffered a grim 16-3 defeat to Godwin when the teams last played back in April of 2022. Will the Rapids have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check back here after the action for a full breakdown and analysis of the contest.
