Baseball Recap: Homer Comes Up Short

Homer had lost five straight on the road dating back to last season, but on Monday they dropped down to 4-3 to make it six. They lost 8-1 to the Hanover-Horton Comets. The Trojans were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Comets apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in April of 2025.

Homer saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Brock Butler, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base. Austin Nantz also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.

As for Hanover-Horton, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 4-3. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.7 runs over those games.

On Hanover-Horton's side, Aiden Zeffrey made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Zeffrey was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. Hanover-Horton is undefeated when Zeffrey posts two or more runs, but 1-3 otherwise.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Cameron Sherwood, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one stolen base and one run. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last four games he's played. Another player making a difference was Levi Bradley, who got on base in two of his four plate appearances with two runs.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Homer will take on Napoleon at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Trojans' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Pirates have averaged an impressive 7.3 runs per game this season. As for Hanover-Horton, they will challenge Michigan Center at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
