Basketball Recap: Elm Creek Makes It 14 in a Row at Home

Elm Creek had to skate by with only a two-point margin when they last took the court, which might have inspired the 33-point drubbing they dealt Wilcox-Hildreth on Tuesday. The Elm Creek Buffaloes claimed a resounding 65-32 victory over the Wilcox-Hildreth Falcons. Given the Buffaloes' advantage in MaxPreps' Nebraska basketball rankings (they are ranked 68th, while the Falcons are ranked 259th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Elm Creek was led to victory by Quin Oberg and Blake Erickson. Oberg went 8 for 11 on his way to 21 points along with five boards and five steals, while Erickson went 5 of 10 en route to 12 points in addition to eight rebounds and five steals. Another player making a difference was Jeremiah Shoemaker, who posted six points along with eight boards and three steals.

Elm Creek was working as a unit and finished the game with 19 assists. That's the most assists they've posted since back in January of 2024.

When it comes to explaining why Wilcox-Hildreth lost, don't look at Micah Johnson. Despite the final result, he put up six points and four steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Cody Schriner, who scored four points and 11 rebounds.

Elm Creek pushed their record up to 10-2 with the win, which was their 14th straight at home dating back to last season. As for Wilcox-Hildreth, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-10.

Elm Creek has already played their next match, a 75-59 victory against Axtell on the 16th. As for Wilcox-Hildreth, they will welcome Loomis at 7:45 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Loomis' favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last eight contests.
