Basketball Recap: Bear Creek Takes a Loss

Bear Creek was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their seventh straight loss. They were beaten by the Ralston Valley Mustangs 68-30. The Bears were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 39-12.

Defeat or not, Bear Creek got some senior leadership from Rachel Vasey and Olivia Kan. Vasey went 6 for 11 en route to 14 points and seven boards, while Kan posted eight points and three steals.

Even though they lost, Bear Creek smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in six consecutive contests.

Ralston Valley found their leader in sophomore Santana Sabus, who dropped a double-double on 18 points and 13 rebounds. The game was Sabus' fourth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Sammi Madden, who earned 12 points along with five boards and three steals.

Bear Creek's loss dropped their record down to 7-11. As for Ralston Valley, their win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 11-7.

Bear Creek will head out to square off against Columbine at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Ralston Valley, they will host Lakewood at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Ralston Valley is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 53.3 points per game this season.
