Softball Recap: Capital Takes a Loss

Capital had lost 11 straight on the road, but on Tuesday they dropped their record down to 3-20 to make it 12. They lost 10-2 to the South Charleston Black Eagles. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Black Eagles this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 9-5 on Saturday.

Jadan Bishop was cooking despite her team's loss, going a perfect 1-for-1 with one triple, one stolen base, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Kathryn Crowder, who went 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI.

As for South Charleston, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-15 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.3 runs over those games.

On South Charleston's side, Jayden Riedel made a splash no matter where she played. She pitched five innings while giving up just two earned runs off three hits. Riedel was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with two runs and one stolen base.

In other batting news, Cayden Holcomb was a standout: she went a perfect 3-for-3 with two triples, three runs, and one stolen base. Those two triples gave her a new career-high. Sophie Frye was another key player, going 2-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and two doubles.

Capital has already played their next contest, a 12-6 loss against Huntington on the 30th. As for South Charleston, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, a 7-1 win against Parkersburg on the 30th.
